Curiosidades sobre o matemático, mágico, pianista, lógico e filósofo norte-americano Raymond Smullyan (1919 – 2017)

Curiosidades...

Smullyan relatou no seu livro What is the name of this book?

“On 1 April 1925, I was sick in bed ... In the morning my brother Emile (ten years my senior) came into my bedroom and said: "Well, Raymond, today is April Fool's Day, and I will fool you as you have never been fooled before!" I waited all day for him to fool me, but he didn't.
I recall lying in bed long after the lights were turned out wondering whether or not I had really been fooled.”

No Prefácio do seu livro de 1982, The Lady or the Tiger? And Other Logic Puzzles, escreveu:

“…any math treatise could be written in the format of a puzzle book! I have sometimes wondered what would have happened if Euclid had written his classic Ele ments in such a format. For example, instead of stating as a theorem that the base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal, and then giving the proof, he could have written: "Problem: Given a triangle with two equal sides, are two of the angles necessarily equal? Why, or why not? (For the solution, see page -.)" And similarly with all the rest of his theorems. Such a book might well have become one of the most popular puzzle books in history.”

Deixamos um dos puzzles deste livro. Divirta-se!

O Puzzle do Político
